Host an Event

Small group meetings at your home, a friend’s house, a coffee shop, or another community setting are an effective tactic for promoting discussion of marijuana and marijuana policy. They can also be a a powerful way to build community and engage undecided and infrequent voters, as they give participants an opportunity to meet supporters, hear about the issue, and have conversations about their own stories and values, as well as our shared values as Coloradans.

A great first event can be a "book club"-style event in which you encourage friends and family members to read the book, Marijuana is Safer: So why are we driving people to drink? This is a great way to get them all the information they need and help them to begin thinking differently about the issue. The book is available for just $10 on Amazon.com, and if you get three copies or more, the shipping is free. The book can also be read for free online at Scribd.com, making it a very accessible activity. You don't need to have an existing "book club" to hold this type of event, but if you do, please suggest Marijuana is Safer as your group's next book.

If you are interested in putting together a local meetup, please download the campaign volunteer manual and take a look at the section about holding house and small group meetings. You can also contact us if you have any questions.
